Aug. 25--Engineers and administrators representing public transit authorities from Boston to Seattle will converge on the Twin Cities next month to trade notes about light rail, streetcars and other transit improvements.
Dan Bartholomay, CEO of Minneapolis-based Railvolution, is gearing up for his organization's national conference Sept. 21-24. The Hyatt Regency in Minneapolis will host some 85 workshops, as well as three large plenary sessions. Additional events will be held across the metro.
A group of Federal Reserve Banks is sponsoring a symposium on "transit-oriented development" and strategies to link low-income or disadvantaged people to transit and transit investments. Nineteen cities will be represented.
The 45 member cities of the National Streetcar Coalition will host a discussion on streetcars. Another forum on "creative placemaking" looks at artistic events and projects throughout the country.
In downtown St. Paul, a special screening at Minnesota Museum of American Art will feature photo exhibits from along the Green Line. A welcome reception at the Union Depot is set for Sept. 21.
