June 04--BREMERTON -- George Capacci or John Ladenburg will be the next Washington State Ferries director, the state Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.
Capacci, WSF's deputy chief of operations and construction, has been serving as interim director since David Moseley resigned April 15. He had held the position for six years. He served as vice president of fleet operations with the Alaska Marine Highway System and is a retired Coast Guard officer.
Ladenburg is a former Pierce County executive and Sound Transit chairman who now works as a private attorney. He also worked as Pierce County prosecutor, Tacoma City Council member, president of Puget Sound Regional Council and president of Puget Sound Economic Development Board.
Capacci and Ladenburg emerged from six candidates who received panel interviews.
The Transportation Department, legislators and local officials host a community open house next week in Bremerton to provide the community an opportunity to meet and speak with the candidates. The event will be 7-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Norm Dicks Government Center, 345 Sixth St. There will be no formal question-and-answer session.
Transportation Department spokesman Lars Erickson said the state hopes to make an offer by June 20.
