His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Wednesday reviewed a package of developmental projects by the Roads and Transport Authority's (RTA) to be implemented in the run-up to World Expo 2020.
Shaikh Mohammed was accompanied by Shaikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai; Lt General Musbeh bin Rashid Al Fattan, Director of Shaikh Mohammad's Office; and other officials during the briefing held at the RTA headquarters in Dubai.
Shaikh Mohammed listened to a detailed presentation on the RTA's ambitious development projects to facilitate the World Expo, including development of the public transport system, which involves the Dubai Metro, Dubai tram, the bus and taxis services as well as the use of smart solutions to provide the best services to customers.
Mattar Al Tayer, Chairman of the Board and Executive Director of the RTA, said the plan includes the expansion and development of Shaikh Zayed Road and finding effective solutions to reduce traffic on the vital road by constructing bridges and new subways.
Upon completion, the project would effectively contribute to moving part of traffic on the busy Shaikh Zayed Road, which extends from the Dubai World Trade Centre roundabout to Jebel Ali, as well as the development of road network around the Dubai International Airport.
Shaikh Mohammed also viewed the project to develop maritime transport such as water taxi, water bus, Dubai Ferry and Super Ferry. He was also briefed on a project to develop bicycles tracks, increasing them to 900km by 2030, as well as on the project to set up rest stops on some highways and truck parking areas, especially on the Mohammed bin Zayed Road, where the first rest stop was opened a few days ago. Shaikh Mohammed expressed his satisfaction with the projects, stressing that they will be implemented as per the highest standards, and will serve citizens and expatriates, visitors and tourists.
