Jan. 13--Dallas-based MV Transportation on Monday announced an extensive schedule of community meetings to discuss its hoped-for $164 million annual contract to run the Milwaukee County Transit System.
The firm said it would hold 32 meetings in 16 locations, starting Tuesday at Zablocki Public Library, 3501 W. Oklahoma Ave. Meetings at Zablocki, as at the other 15 locations, will be at 2 and 7 p.m.
The ambitious outreach effort comes as challenges begin to the county's tentative decision to award MV a contract lasting up to five years.
A special Milwaukee County Board panel reviewing appeals to the MV contract award meets at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the courthouse to review several transit contract proposals and how the county's Department of Transportation led the bidding process.
Milwaukee Transport Services and Veolia Transportation have appealed the decision favoring MV. MTS, which has held the county transit contract for nearly four decades, and the French-owned Veolia say MV unfairly received a second chance to augment its proposal that was rated the lowest of five bidders on everything but cost of administrators.
