A pedestrian was struck and killed by a light-rail train Sunday night at 42nd and Hiawatha streets in Minneapolis. A Metro Blue Line train going southbound struck a pedestrian crossing the tracks around 6 p.m., said spokesman John Siqveland.
The gate arms were lowered at the time to prevent pedestrian traffic, he said.
Replacement bus service was operating between Franklin and Fort Snelling stations until about 7:50 p.m.
Metro Transit Police as well as Metro Transit's Rail Safety division are investigating the accident. As standard procedure, the train operator will undergo testing for drugs and alcohol.
It was the 10th fatal accident on the light-rail line since it began operating in June 2004.
