The VIA Metropolitan Transit board is meeting Tuesday night to consider how to build the streetcar system in downtown San Antonio in phases.
Last week, VIA planners recommended to a board committee that the agency build a north-south line as the first phase of the $280 million, 5.9-mile project. Currently, VIA has about $210 million to spend on it. The east-west route would have to wait.
The committee forwarded that recommendation to the full board for consideration Tuesday, but on the condition that other route options be weighed alongside the north-south proposal. Among those options are building an east-west section first, or a combination of the plans.
Those options will be discussed at the board meeting Tuesday night.
