A woman died Tuesday morning when she was hit by an Amtrak train near Angier Avenue and Wrenn Road in eastern Durham County, the sheriff's office said.
An Amtrak spokeswoman said the train was the Piedmont, No. 73, headed west from Raleigh, with its next stop scheduled in Durham.
Deputy Paul Sherwin, a sheriff's office spokesman, said that deputies were investigating the circumstances, but that they did not appear to be suspicious.
The woman, whose identity has not been released, was hit about 7:10 a.m. at the railroad's Milepost 59.8, Amtrak said.
The train had 33 passengers aboard, Amtrak said. None of the passengers or crew was hurt.
On Dec. 2, Joseph Mewborn, 20, of Durham, was walking with a friend when he was struck and killed by an Amtrak passenger train on the tracks near Pettigrew and Plum streets.
