The Rt. 62/62X Fairfield Express and Job Connection was discontinued in 2011 at the request of the BCRTA, which funded the service, Dunne said. To provide improved service to Fairfield, BCRTA and Metro agreed to extend the Fairfield-Tri-County Express to serve more Fairfield locations.
Previous drops in ridership came in 2009, when the economy soured and Metro raised fares, then again in 2012 after a different fare increase. However, the reliability of any statistics prior to the installation of new fare boxes in November 2011 is suspect, Dunne said.
"You have to take everything with a grain of salt because before those new fare boxes, the numbers weren't quite as accurate as they are now," she said.
