Things are looking up for Macon County's rural public transportation system.
Ridership was higher during September and is expected to grow even more for October, Show Bus Director Laura Dick told members of the Macon County Rural Transportation Advisory Committee this week.
The number of rides provided in September was 262, compared to 190 for August.
"We're also seeing rides coming out of Mount Zion, Maroa and a few others that had dropped away a bit, so that's very exciting," Dick said.
September statistics show that residents of Decatur, Illiopolis, Argenta, Macon and Mount Zion were using Show Bus the most, followed by Latham, Blue Mound and Warrensburg.
Another positive sign for the system are plans by the Macon County Board to appoint three new members to the advisory committee Nov. 14 after several meetings have failed to attract a quorum.
Wednesday's meeting was no exception, with just three of the eight members present: Alissa Dozier, director of developmental and vocational services at Macon Resources Inc.; Andrea Shaffer, senior services director the Decatur-Macon County Opportunities Corp.; and county board member Gary Minich, D-Decatur.
Absent were the three members who are not seeking reappointment when their terms expire Nov. 30.
They are: Julie Aubert, executive director of the Macon County Health Department; Robert Brice, associate director of the highway careers training program of the Illinois Community College Board; and Paul Rosenberger of Decatur, representing the East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging.
Also not in attendance were Leslie Stanberry, executive director of the Decatur-Macon County Senior Center, and committee Chairman Mark Wicklund.
Two of the three appointees county board Chairman Jay Dunn plans to propose attended Wednesday's meeting.
They are Emily Dobson, program manager for Soyland Access to Independent Living; and Marilyn Piasecki, information specialist for Starting Point at the Macon County Health Department.
The third proposed appointee is Diane Drew, executive director of the Community Home Environmental Learning Project.
