Riders were ducking for cover Monday afternoon after someone opened fire on an AC Transit bus in East Oakland, police said.
The shooting happened about 2:20 p.m. on International Boulevard, involving a 1R rapid bus headed eastbound for Bayfair Center in San Leandro.
One victim, a man in his 80s, was grazed while getting off the bus at Eighth Avenue, and another was wounded onboard. Both victims were taken to a hospital and were expected to recover from their injuries.
Three people who were apparently the intended targets were not hit, police said. After the shots were fired, they told the bus driver to drive away and the bus came to a stop at 15th Avenue, police said.
There were dozens aboard the articulated bus when the shooting happened and people were screaming and ducking after the shots rang out, one rider told police.
Windows on both sides were shattered, but it wasn't immediately clear how many shots were fired.
Police don't know what prompted the shooting, and said there were no reports of an argument.
