A grant of $502,000 was awarded last week for work to close the gap between the Ohlone Greenway in El Cerrito and the Richmond Greenway.

Richmond and El Cerrito received notification Jan. 10 of their successful joint application for the Safe Routes to Transit grant from the Metropolitan Transit Commission.

According to the Richmond city manager's office, the grant will be used "to construct transit-related improvements." The two cities and BART funded preparation of the design and construction documents for the project.

The two cities have also applied for additional grants that would go for other improvements along the corridor, including restoration of a portion of Baxter Creek.
