Saudi Arabia: Final $8.2B Haramain Rail Contracts Signed

Saudi government officials signed off more than $8.2 billion in contracts for Phase 2 of the Haramain High Speed Rail (HHR) project on Saturday.

The contract was awarded to a Saudi-Spanish Consortium represented by the Al-Shoula Co JV late last year, and the official documents were signed on Saturday by both Minister of Finance Ibrahim Al-Assaf and Minister of Transport Jabara Al-Seraisry on behalf of the Saudi government in Riyadh. This phase will see the purchase of 35 trains, along with 13 carriages, traffic signs and railway tracks, which are set to be installed by a Saudi consortium at a reported cost of around $8bn.
