FL: Record-Breaking Month for Palm Tran

Palm Tran, Palm Beach County's public transportation agency, set an all-time record in October 2011 with a total monthly ridership of 1,003,356. This is the first time Palm Tran has exceeded one million passenger trips in any one month period. The average weekday ridership in October of 40,843 was also a record.

Palm Tran, Palm Beach County's public transportation agency, set an all-time record in October 2011 with a total monthly ridership of 1,003,356. This is the first time Palm Tran has exceeded one million passenger trips in any one month period. The average weekday ridership in October of 40,843 was also a record.

Compared with the same time period, in October 2010, the monthly total ridership was 962,039. The new record marks a 4.29% increase.

Transit Makes a Difference in Economic Recovery

Palm Beach County’s unemployment rate for October 2011 was 10.3 percent – down 0.6 percentage points from the September 2011 rate – and a 1.6 percentage point decrease from the October 2010 rate, according to information provided today by Workforce Alliance and the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity.

“In addition to the third consecutive month of a decline in Palm Beach County’s unemployment rate, it’s encouraging to note that the number of job openings has increased 13.5 percent in the county compared to this same time last year,” said Steve Craig, interim chief executive officer of Workforce Alliance, the nonprofit organization chartered by the state of Florida to create and lead workforce development in Palm Beach County.
