There were no injuries in a construction accident Monday night on the Port Authority of Allegheny County light-rail transit lines in Mt. Lebanon that stopped service on the Red Line in the area.

The brakes on a small mechanical lift that operates on the rails and is used to raise heavy objects gave way at about 8:45 p.m., and the lift rolled down the tracks and collided with a construction truck at the light-rail tunnel, Port Authority spokesman Jim Ritchie said. There were about seven workers there, county emergency dispatchers said.

The inbound lines had been closed for the work, so there were no light-rail vehicles or passengers in the area at the time, Ritchie said. However, the fire department closed the outbound Red Line until the crash site could be cleared.

The work on the lines was being done by outside contractors, Ritchie said.
