India: Passengers Ransack Station After 5-hr Wait in Train

Angry passengers today ransacked Lakhminia railway station when Katihar-Barauni passenger train remained stranded at the station for over five hours in Bihar's Begusarai district, official sources said.

Angry passengers today ransacked Lakhminia railway station when Katihar-Barauni passenger train remained stranded at the station for over five hours in Bihar's Begusarai district, official sources said.

According to East Central Railway authorities, movement of local trains were suspended during the day from 11 am to 6 pm in Barauni-Khagaria section because of the ongoing installation work for inter-locking system in the track.

The work started today and movement of local trains would remain suspended for the same period daily till June 15, ECR sources said.

After the train reached Lakhmania, it was not allowed to resume its onwards journey due to the work and the passengers remained stranded there.

After waiting for over five hours, the passengers became impatient. They disembarked from the train and started shouting slogans against the authorities, the sources said.

They also misbehaved with the railway employees and ransacked offices and the ticket-counter of the station, sources said.

A police team soon reached the station and dispersed the passengers, they said. PTI COR AJK NN PS 06112227
