Metrolink Opens New Transit Center in downtown Rock Island
Rock Island County Metropolitan Mass Transit (Metrolink) opened a new $2.1 million transit station Jan. 13 in downtown Rock Island, Ill.
The station replaces the current on-street transfer site located at 16th Street and 3rd Avenue. It provides nearly 2,000 square-feet of enclosed waiting area, a passenger information kiosk and a 52-inch monitor displaying bus arrival information.
DCTA Kicks off I-35E Construction Marketing Campaign for A-Train
The Denton County Transportation Authority (DCTA) launched a marketing campaign as an alternative for transportation during the construction along the I-35E corridor.
The agency wants to increase A-train ridership by encouraging potential passengers to use it to avoid heavy construction traffic on I-35E.
SEPTA to Install Second Hybrid Energy Storage System
The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority (SEPTA) will install a second ABB Enviline energy storage and recovery system for DC rail transportation.
The system will incorporate a hybrid approach to energy storage to recover train braking energy to reduce system electricity consumption.
AVTA Buys Two Electric Buses
The Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) purchased two BYD electric buses which will be in service by April.
AVTA intends to hire a project engineer to help facilitate the electric bus demonstration project and lay the groundwork for bus rapid transit.
OCTA Starts BikeShare Pilot
The Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) kicked off a bike-sharing pilot program to provide commuters with emissions-free transportation option.
There will be a 90-day testing period for the public to try the system and provide feedback on their experience.
PSTA Breaks Ground on New Transit transfer Center

VctC, RoadRunner Test Electric Buses in Ventura
The Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC) and Roadrunner Shuttle tested the county’s first pure-electric transit bus.
The retrofitted Gillig bus features an all-electric zero-emissions propulsion system. It made two trips along VISTA’s 25-minute-round-trip CSUCI-Camarillo route, carrying approximately 80 passengers in the process.

This first long-range electric bus was approved for evaluation testing by Viao Rio Vermelho in the Bahia capital.
The testing line was from the airport to Lapa and ran until Dec. 21.

The new fiberglass bus seats are stain-resistant, easy to clean and comfortably contour the passenger’s body while on their trip.
