The challenges and benefits of bringing wireless connectivity to 278 underground stations of the century-old New York City subway system will be the focus of a panel discussion hosted by Transit Wireless at the 6th annual SmartTransit USA Congress & Expo, October 25 through October 26 in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Transit Wireless is hosting the session, “Creating a safer and better connected transit network in New York,” which will bring together executives from the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Sprint, T-Mobile, Outfront Media, Transit Wireless and its parent company, BAI Communications.

“Building the Transit Wireless network in the New York City subway is a significant public private partnership and a substantial technological undertaking that I think the Congress attendees will find very interesting,” said Chris Jaeger, managing director of Transit Systems at BAI Communications, the panel moderator. “Within a subway that operates 24-hours-a day and has an infrastructure that in some locations, is more than 100-years-old, we’re successfully building a wireless network that advances communications for the MTA, for public safety and for riders, and presents significant commercial application potential.”

Panelists for Creating a Safer and Better Connected Transit Network in New York, include:

  • William A. Bayne, CEO, Transit Wireless
  • Mark R. Heavey, director of marketing and advertising, Metropolitan Transportation Authority
  • Pete Dawson, regional manager, Northeast Regional Site Development - In Building Systems and Special Events, Sprint
  • Salim Kouldri, senior director of engineering & operations, T-Mobile USA
  • Andrew Sriubas, executive vice president, strategic planning and development, Outfront Media

The panel will showcase experiences and insights into the New York City subway project and explore the ways in which carriers, solutions providers and the MTA are working together to ensure a common technology infrastructure for public, private and commercial applications.

Additionally, Josh MacKinnon, director, Engineering Systems, BAI Canada will participate on the panel earlier in the day titled Key influencers in attracting more passengers.
