Sen. Hickenlooper tours EVRAZ Pueblo

Feb. 1, 2022
The tour included EVRAZ’s new rail mill and attendees discussed the economic and environmental benefits of the recently passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal.

U.S. Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO) joined representatives from EVRAZ North America on Jan. 27 for a tour of the steel product manufacturer’s EVRAZ Pueblo facility.

The company that would evolve into EVRAZ Pueblo was established in 1881 under the name Colorado Fuel and Iron Company. The company helped build and mold the American West and, today, EVRAZ Pueblo is one of the top steel producers in the world. The company’s products include rail, seamless pipe, rod and coiled reinforcing bar.

Skip Herald, CEO, EVRAZ NA, led the tour group through the new rail mill and discussed the economic and environmental benefits of the recently passed Bipartisan Infrastructure Deal.

“That bill is going to be the largest climate investment in the history of the country and companies like EVRAZ in Colorado and all over the country are going to stand to benefit from that investment,” said Sen. Hickenlooper.

Sen. Hickenlooper, who is a former governor of Colorado before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2021, serves on the Senate’s Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, Committee on Energy and Natural Resources, and the Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

"It was a pleasure hosting Sen. Hickenlooper and his staff at our facility today. Getting the opportunity to tour our facility, talk about the state of the rail industry in Colorado and hear from the senator about the happenings in D.C. was a great experience," said Dave Ferryman, senior vice president, Pueblo Business Unit at EVRAZ NA.

In addition to Ferryman and Herald, EVRAZ was represented by Tom Young and David Kenney. Also in attendance was Roy Romer, former Governor of Colorado; Sara Blackhurst Espinoza, Action 22 president and CEO; Andrew Hayes, director of Public Works for the city of Pueblo; and Mike McGonagle, vice president of Operations for the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association.
