British Columbia shortlists two teams for Surrey Langley SkyTrain stations package

The nearly 10-mile SkyTrain Expo Line extension south of the Fraser River is being built under three separate contracts.

The government of British Columbia has shortlisted South Fraser Station Partners and SkyLink Stations Partners to submit proposals for the second of three packages that will deliver the 16-kilometer (9.9-mile) Surrey Langley Sky Train project.

The project is a nearly 10-mile extension of the SkyTrain Expo Line that will be the first rapid transit expansion south of the Fraser River in 30 years. The project will operate along an elevated guideway and include eight stations and three transit exchanges.

The project is being delivered under three separate contracts. The firms shortlisted above cover a scope of work that includes the design and build of the projects eight new stations, as well as cycling and walking paths around the new stations.

The provincial government anticipates making a selection on a preferred proponent in early 2024.

Major construction on the Surrey Langley SkyTrain project is expected to begin in 2024. The province shortlisted two teams to submit proposals on the first construction package in January. The scope of the first package includes the design, build and finance the elevated guideway, roadworks and utilities with a preferred proponent selection expected in late 2023. The third construction package includes the design and installation of the SkyTrain trackwork, as well as the design, installation and integration of electrical systems, such as power, telecommunications and automatic train control. A Request for Qualifications for the third contract was issued in November 2022, and the province expects to release the shortlisted teams later this spring.
