Allentown Student Attends Transportation Youth Summit in DC

Dorah Ganchoso of Allentown was among a select group of high school students in the US who participated in a week-long summer transportation program in Washington, DC. The 2017 American Public Transportation Association Youth Summit to Advance Public Transportation.

A Junior at Allentown Central Catholic High School, Dorah was among just fifty students from throughout the nation selected by the APTA Advisory and Review Panel. She was nominated by Owen P. O’Neil, executive director at Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority.

“Dorah has demonstrated a genuine interest in public transportation and represented LANTA well at the APTA Youth Summit,” O’Neil said.  “We are pleased to identify young people who understand the important role transit plays in the vitality of a community,” he added.

Among the highlights of the summit were visits to the Maryland Area Transit Authority properties as well as a first-hand look at the D.C. Metro system.

“I really enjoyed the hands-on experiences, meeting industry leaders at the Summit, as well as learning about the many career paths available in the public transportation industry,” Ganchoso said.

Ganchoso is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Juan of Allentown.
