Lehigh and Northampton Transportation Authority buses were used recently for guide dog training in public transit settings. The training was conducted by Lehigh Valley volunteers in conjunction with The Seeing Eye, a Morristown, New Jersey-based organization that enhances the independence, dignity, and self-confidence of blind people through the use of Seeing Eye dogs.

Nearly one dozen puppies were trained in helping their trainers enter and exit buses, stop at fare boxes interact with other passengers and then guide them to seats.

“We are happy to assist the volunteer Lehigh Valley Seeing Eye puppy trainers in their important role. We serve a considerable number of people with disabilities and we make every effort help make their trips routine and rewarding,” said Owen P. O’Neil, LANTA’s executive director.
