Brandon Smiley joined the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) as its Chief Operating Officer on Oct.17, 2022. Smiley comes to DART with extensive experience in public transportation operations. He spent 17 years working in operations for the Kansas City Area Transit Authority (KCATA) where he started as a transit bus operator and worked in several roles, including transportation supervisor, transportation assistant superintendent, transportation manager and most recently the director of transportation.
At DART, Smiley will lead more than 200 employees in the Operations, Maintenance and Facilities departments, overseeing vital projects supporting the delivery of current and future services.
Smiley graduated with his Bachelor of Arts from MidAmerica Nazarene University in 2015 and received his MBA from American Public University in 2020. Smiley, his wife and their four high school children are in the process of relocating from the Kansas City area to Greater Des Moines.
